These have got their name from a Latin word meaning river horse (hippos potamos) they spend hours in the water to cool down their body temperature. Hippopotamus are big, huge and heavy animal which are mainly grey in color and consist basically only for fat and bones. They can weight up to 4500 kilos. They have large big front teeth, said to have been the most dangerous African animal having killed more human beings than any other. Hippopotamus usually are known for being peaceful and easygoing but although the animal has this reputation, the killer one has to be added to it! They consume about 50kg vegetation per night and can spend up to ten minutes, nostrils closed, under water. As you can see, they just love the water!!!
